Mars Mission

This was where it all came together. Two Jimnys, a few mates, all the gear, on an otherwordly beach – the kind you’d only find on the West Coast of New Zealand.

The day was part product test, part photoshoot, but mostly just good fun.

We’ve had our Strong Boy Bars on the roof for months, but this was the first mission for our newly-developed Mighty Smart Rack. The rack did what it says on the tin – staying rock solid under heavy load, heavy breaking, dune climbs, river crossings, anything we could throw at or on the Jimny. As for the roof load, it was a reassuring ‘that’s not going anywhere’.

After 2+ years of tinkering and sweating the details, it was epic to see our two roof rack configurations side-by-side. The two bars with a mean and lean look, and the full rack building on the Jimny’s boxy frame. Our Jimny-inspired range of clothing also made its beach debut, holding it down on a west coast winter’s day.

MVP of the day was Matt Hurley – a mate, and the man behind the camera. Turns out clay cliffs and Jimnys make for a nice composition.

If you’re after some new terrain to test out your Jimny, Hamilton Gap is the spot, southwest of āwhitu. Stay away from high tide, and be sure to rinse off that salt spray at the end of the day, or at the very least give it a good run through the stream.

Stay skinny,
SJ

Always rinse your Jimny.
